Phoenix Down is a fic and art exchange for all fandoms in the Final Fantasy franchise.

This exchange requires participants to be 18 or older in order to sign up.

This exchange operates under a "don't be an asshole" policy.
Participants who'll harass fellow participants or who will be otherwise found to be acting in bad faith will have their signup removed at the mods' discretion.

Nominations

Fandoms and relationships can be nominated here on AO3

You may nominate up to 5 fandoms with 10 characters/relationships each. We are carrying the tagset over from last year for 2025, so please check that your nominations are not already in the tagset!

Please disambiguate all your nominations. Don't use pipes if not strictly necessary.

To nominate a character please follow the format 1: Character's name (Fandom). (Example: 1: Yuna (FFX))

If you want to nominate worldbuilding for a fandom, please nominate it as 1: Worldbuilding (Fandom)

If you want to nominate a group of characters that belong to a defined group (example: the Scions of the 7th Dawn from FFXIV) please nominate the relevant / or & relationships you want. If you end up hitting the 100 characters maximum wordcount on tags feel free to abbreviate to first name only.

To nominate a relationship do so without any prefixes. Nominate Character A/Character B (Fandom) or Character A & Character B (Fandom). We accept nominations for pairings, both & and /, featuring more than two people.

Please keep in mind that mixed & and / nominations will not be accepted. Nominations like Character A/Character B & Character C will be rejected.

Crossovers are allowed between all entries in the Final Fantasy franchise. Please use your best judgment about what counts as an entry in the Final Fantasy franchise.
For the purposes of this exchange, Kingdom Hearts does not count as an entry in the Final Fantasy franchise and is thus not eligible. The same applies to other JRPGs published by Square Enix such as Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler etc.

However, Vagrant Story is eligible, as it is part of the Ivalice setting.

Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 (SaGa 1-3 in Japan) is not eligible.

Final Fantasy Adventure (1991/93 release only) is eligible, but the GBA 2003 remake which rebranded to Sword of Mana is not.

To nominate a crossover, please nominate them under the Crossover fandom, and disambiguate every character, like Yuna (FFX-2) & Y'shtola Ruhl (FFXIV)

Fandom specific guidelines:

For Final Fantasy VII:
We are allowing some granular nominations across the FFVII Compilation as below:

FFVII Remake verse (including Rebirth) should be nominated as Final Fantasy VII Remake and disambiguated as (FFVII Remake)

FFVII OG, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children and Before Crisis should be nominated as Final Fantasy VII Compilation and disambiguated as (FFVII Compilation)

FFVII Ever Crisis and The First Soldier should be nominated as Final Fantasy VII Mobile and disambiguated as (FFVII Mobile)

For Final Fantasy X & X-2:

Final Fantasy X should be nominated as Final Fantasy X and disambiguated as (FFX)

Final Fantasy X-2 should be nominated as Final Fantasy X-2 and disambiguated (FFX-2)

For Final Fantasy Dissidia:

Characters and ships nominated under Dissidia should be disambiguated as (Dissidia)

For Final Fantasy XI:

We will not accept nominations for: Adventurer

For Final Fantasy XIV:

We will not accept nominations for: Warrior of Light, Warrior of Darkness, Meteor, Azem.

G'raha Tia and Crystal Exarch should be nominated separately.

Emet-Selch and Solus Galvus should be nominated separately.

Signups

Requests:
You may request 1-10 fandoms, each with at least one medium (fanfic, fanart or both) and at least 1 character/relationship or the worldbuilding tag. You may also request "any" in the character field, opting in to receive any nominated character/relationship and worldbuilding for that fandom.

You cannot request the same fandom more than once.
(For the purposes of this exchange, fandoms like FFVII Remake, FFVII Compilation and FFVII Mobile and other closely related fandoms are considered separate, distinct fandoms. For more details on what counts as a distinct fandom, please refer to the nomination guidelines).

While you may request as few fandoms as 1 you'll only be guaranteed a gift if you request at least 3 distinct fandoms (please see above for what counts as "distinct" fandom).

If no offers match your requests, you'll go out as a pinch-hit. The collection won't be revealed until anyone who has requested at least 3 distinct fandoms has a gift.
If you've requested less than 3 distinct fandoms, you'll still go out as a pinch-hit, but the collection will still be revealed even if you don't have a gift by the deadline.

Offers:
You have to offer 3-10 fandoms, each with at least one medium (fic, fanart or both), and at least one character/relationship or the worldbuilding tag.
You can also offer "any" in the character field, which means you are willing to create a gift for any nominated characters/relationships and for worldbuilding requests.

If none of your offers matches any request by the time sign ups close, the mods will contact you, and you'll have 24 hours to add relevant offers.
If you don't reply back in 24 hours, or if you don't want to add offers, your signups will be deleted.

Additional details:
If you have any Do Not Wants/DNWs, please make sure to include them in the additional details field.

In order to be considered valid, your DNWs must be clearly labelled as such and not contradict your request (ie: you must not DNW incest and then request an incestuous ship, or request a group and then DNW one of its members).
Your DNWs should also be specific (ie: no "no unrequested kinks" as it is too broad) and avoid judgmental statements (ie: no "no gross kinks!").

While you can add a link to a "dear creator" letter, only DNWs stated in the additional details field of the signup will be enforced.

Also, if you have a "dear creator" letter, please make sure to have it publicly available by the time sign ups close.

There's a chance that tags won't appear in the drop-down menu when signing up. In that case, please copy-paste the tag EXACTLY as it appears in the tagset.

Comments:
You are not required to comment on your gift to participate in next year's round. However, we strongly encourage anyone to leave a comment on any gift they receive.

Assignments

Assignments are only guaranteed to match on one fandom, one character/relationship or worldbuilding, and one medium.
You are only expected to fill one of your assigned recipient's requests. You do not need to fulfill the request you matched on, but you can choose to fill any of your recipient's requests.

If you didn't receive your assignment, or your assignment does not match any of your offered fandoms/characters/mediums, please reach out to the mods ASAP.

Minimum requirements: (2025 UPDATE!)
Minimum work requirements are one complete fanfic of at least 500 words, or one nice sketch of original art, digital or traditional, on clean, unlined paper.
Photo manipulations, AI-generated images and texts, in-game screenshots, icons and such graphics do not constitute a valid gift for this exchange and won't fulfill your assignment (they won't be considered valid treats either).

Fulfilling:
You can fulfill an assignment by going to your AO3 assignment page and clicking the "fulfill" button. Please note that drafts do not count as fulfilled assignments so
make sure to post your work. 2025 UPDATE! Artworks uploaded to discord won't be considered to fulfill an assignment either, as the links expire after a short period of time. Please use a different image host. Here is a resource compiled by tessisamess on insanejournal that lists some alternative image hosts.

Defaulting:
If you can't finish your assignment, please default by going to your AO3 assignments page and clicking the "default" button on your assignment.
You don't have to justify your defaulting to the mod. You may still get a gift, but if your assigned creator also defaults, you won't go out to pinch hit.

If you haven't posted a work by the deadline, you'll be defaulted by the mods.

Extensions:
Please reach out to the mods if you need an extension on your assignment. We don't need to know why you need one in your request.

No extensions will be granted for assignments after the deadline has passed (pinch hitters will still be able to request them).

Anonymity:
Works should remain anonymous during the collection's anonymous period.

Artists may still sign their works.

Treats:
Treats are extra gifts. While treats do not need to meet the minimum requirements, please note that they should still fulfill one of the recipient's requests and follow the recipient's DNWS.

Photo manipulations, AI-generated images and texts, in-game screenshots and such graphics do not constitute valid treats.

Treats shouldn't be given to more than one person. Treats to the collection are allowed.

If your AO3 account was created after February 2022 and you would like treats, please make sure make sure your account is set up to allow additional gifts: go to Preferences and click "Allow anyone to gift me works."

We encourage anyone who does NOT want treats to specify so in their optional details.
